The author of this poetic odyssey, Edgar Lee Masters (1869-1950), was an enormously prolific American writer and poet. He is known mainly for Spoon River, his most popular work.

From September 27, 2005-December 31, 2005, the show “The Perfect Medium: Photography and the Occult,” was on display at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. While it would appear at first blush to be nothing more than a historical novelty, it is much more.

After attending the exhibition, “The Perfect Medium: Photography and the Occult,” at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art in November 2005, I realized I could never satisfy my curiosity for this work in a packed gallery. This was an entire subculture I knew nothing about! Luckily, the book was available.
