Humorous Links on Death: Death Clock, Find a Death, and The Dead Pool

April 14, 2006 by admin

The internet has all kinds of bizarre sites on death. For instance, The Death Clock, an internet site that will tell you how long you have left, down to the second. Of course, it’s all in good humor based on averages – type in your age, sex, outlook on life, BMI, and whether or not you smoke, and you can watch the seconds tick by.
If you’re interested in how a particular celebrity died, try Find A Death.

Or, if celebrity death pools are your thing, try the Lee Atwater Invitational Dead Pool at Stiffs.com. Like a morbid fantasy sport, in the Dead Pool, you pick a number of celebrities you think will die this year, ranking them based on how likely you think they will die. Then, as the year ticks away and deaths occur, you rack up points for correct picks. At the end of the year, whoever has the most points wins a cash prize ($2,006 this year).

As I sit here in my living room typing this passage, my thirteen-year-old daughter is practicing Bach’s Prelude in C minor on our piano. I can’t help but think it would be the perfect soundtrack to George Saunders’ recent novel, Lincoln in the Bardo.  The music is somber, as is the book. You may be wondering […]
